Janic Wermuth's picture

Hey Guys

I just wanted to say and ask you for your opinion. This is a re-edit of a picture I took about a year ago. Do you think its overdone or not? Would be stoked about some feedback.

Nice foundation shot to build on. I do think the edits are a bit heavy handed. The trouble with the light is that it can't physically do this so the eye automatically knows something is wrong. The sun cannot bend around and shine on the back of the left slope. Darken this slope so that it is almost a silhouette leaving the sun shining on the face of the right mountain. Pay attention to the reflection in the water and make sure it matches too unless you lighten a bit there. Not sure if you'll lose the boats then. You'll have to play with it. The other option is completely move the light to coming from the right. Whatever you do, remember that the our eyes know the laws of physics even when our brains don't. We need to hone up on this when we start playing with light and shadow Then, take down the saturation a smidge and you'll be golden.

in this shot i would have posted up closer to the ground to accentuate those cracks. the post process glow is a bit strange due to placement it seems to come from in between the mountains rather than behind them you have to take into consideration how light reacts in nature and then you can exaggerate from there. just realize that shadows and obstructions still come into play in directional light.

Fun picture. I would say it is a bit overdone, but sometimes it is fun to push the colors around a bit. I have played around with hue and saturation on some of my pictures and see a couple of the same effects in your shot. For instance, there is a halo effect happening on tree to skyline of the center mountain. The clouds also have lost dimension and look pretty flat now. Overall though, a really neat scene. Aside from the colors, I might apply a graduated filter to the bottom to lighten up the mud cracks a bit. I feel I skip over that part of the picture and go right to bright sun spot. Thanks for sharing!
