Magnolia

It must be spring - the magnolia are in bloom! Took this this afternoon as the sun went down.

As always, feedback is welcome.

Nice shot. Did you use something behind the flower to get an even background?

now - if I tell you, I can't sneak this into the seamless background competition! ;)

Only distance. And really working the angles so that there was both distance and something fairly solid in the background. Here are a few other pictures from same shoot yesterday. All are straight from the camera - no touch ups at all.

I carry an inexpensive Sigma DG 70-300mm 1.4-5.6 with a macro 200-300 with me at work because I work outside and don't want to damage a better lens but also have too many great opportunities to not carry anything. The macro on this lens is oddly great at bokeh.

Were you asking because you like the background or is there something not working for you? I do appreciate suggestions!

I think the background is great. I was asking because it was dark with real no evidence of a background scene. I would never guess that wasn't something actually blocking the background. I like the one you posted the best out of the others above.

Nice left-handed composition, Ruth! Love that empty void, and again you've celebrated one of Nature's mistresspieces. One tiny tweak - I think the flower could glow a little more, i.e.the shadows on the petals are just a tiny bit dark. Maybe. I'm not sure.

Here's an edit to show what I mean, but it's changed the background, and not for the better.

I get your point though! Thanks for this. While I wanted to other one to be dark, it definitely was going for glow here! ;)

Gorgeous and so pure!
