Holding Your Ground While Sharing the Space

Greetings fellow users of the internet.

A few weeks ago I went up to Roppongi in Tokyo to go to a museum. Unfortunately those plans didn't work out, because it was super busy. However while I was there, I decided to take a look around, and that's when I found this location.

I decided to return, this week, and set up my camera for sunset. Tokyo has over 9 million people in it, before even counting the tourists. Naturally, this means a number of locations can get quite busy, especially during sunset. Luckily I arrived to this location an hour early, so I was able to get my preferred spot. The space was quite limited, but I was still conscious to make sure that I was leaving space available for others around me trying to sneak in with their cameras and phones. Being a foreign photographer in Japan, I'm always worried about coming across as "rude" or "selfish", however, it's important to ensure you both hold your ground, while allowing others some space to snap a shot as well. Of course, you can't always let everyone in, there's only so much space for tripods, and sometimes you can't risk people bumping your camera, but as a photography hobbyist I try my best to not give "us" a bad name, while holding my ground.

Anyway, I was able to grab this picture, during sunset. Let me know what you think (I think it might be a little too purple/pink, but I've also spent a lot of time looking at it, so that could just be my eyes playing tricks on me). Also, I've thought about bumping up the brightness on the cherry blossom tree, any thoughts on that?

Also, I know this may be more of a cityscape image, but I feel like the main elements are "nature" that happen to be in a city (the main elements being the cherry blossom tree and the sunset)

your assessment is correct the cherry tree does need a boost it is a strong character in the shot and should be more present not hiding in the shadows

Thanks! I’ll be sure to play around with it when I have some more tree time (originally a typo, but decided to keep it for the pun).
I suddenly have too many photos to edit, so I need to calm down and spend more time on each one before calling them “done”

i have been editing from my vacation photos and I'm running out of those editing them in about 45min to and 1hr30min a piece

I try not to spend too much time on one photo at a time, so sometimes I jump between images so I can make tweaks after coming back with fresh eyes (for example, I just noticed the distracting orange light in the building on the right) - new image is in the comment response below.

Hi Jordan, There are few places as crowded while at the same time having nature woven in to the surroundings. I think you did an excellent job telling that story. And the colors in this are amazing. Exceptionally well done. I agree with Joe. After you make this little tweak you will have a 5 star on your profile!

Here's a new edit, with a slightly brighter tree... also with the distracting orange light on the building removed.

Could you edit your original post and add this? It makes it easier to compare. ;)

Sorry about that, haha. Done.
