Help! Please

Apologize for the post, in advance, i don't know if i'm allowed to do it, but I've been encountering this issue and all my weekend trip shots are appearing to be lost.

All the photos were on my laptop bought a new pc and transfer everything on it but now when im opening Lightroom this is happening (picture attached) Before i look at the photos on my laptop and was only one or two having this issues but i ignored, even preview all of them and edit a few but after i transferred to the pc all of them appear fine on thumbnails its only after i'm going to Develop this stripes are keep appearing on every photo.

Thought that someone might help me understand what is happening, as in the begging i thought that is my camera...and must say i panicked as i just have upgraded my gear, i have no idea what it might be.

Many thanks

Try regenerating previews in Lightroom or open the RAW files in a different processor (the camera manufacturers all make a free one you can try, Sony's is called Imaging Edge). If the artifacts still exist, not looking good for your camera. It looks like a sensor issue but if these are from your A7Rii (judging by your profile) I'd be very surprised. Since the viewfinder in a mirrorless camera is data from the sensor you would have seen these in the camera when you were composing the shot. Do your landscape orientation images have the lines in the horizontal direction?

could it be a software issue like there is a miscommunication between the actual file and the software reading the file

That's why I suggested trying another raw processor.

Do you still have the originals on the memory card? If so, do they look okay when you view them on the camera's preview screen?

If the files look okay on the camera, then at least you still have a good backup. DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD(S). Take it out of the camera and store it somewhere safe until you find out what's going on.

Next, try opening the files on the computer in a different app. Even if it's just the freebie that came with the computer. If they are fine in another app, the trouble is your editing software and might need to be re-installed.

To me, this looks like corruption caused by a storage failure. Your hard drive or SSD might be causing it. If you have an external hard drive, try transferring the files from the memory card directly to the external drive and then open them in your editing app. If they look okay from the external drive, your primary storage solution might be failing.

If the problem persists from one app to another and from one hard drive to another, it might be bad memory. Have you noticed any other issues in any non-photo apps?

Don't panic yet. Just go through step by step until you've narrowed down the source of the problem.

Unfortunately to late for that, I never encountered issues and always copied everything from the card and format the card afterwards:(( lesson learned now

yikes the only thing i could suggest is autofill this would make me cry looks like a great image

This is a strange one Cristian. Like others have suggested you need to try and isolate the cause by process of elimination. It would be interesting to know if the lines were consistent in all images.

It would be unlikely to be an issue with your camera unless you had multiple rows of sensors bad.

Viewing on the same PC with a separate image viewer would be telling, and allow you to determine if the issue is in LR or not. If OK outside of LR then that is obviously the issue.

If files look bad outside of LR also then that implies corruption of the images (are lines consistent when opening multiple times?). This can be confirmed by checking on your old PC (if available) or even on your memory card.

If this is only happening in Develop that might suggest an LR problem and I'd try contacting support, ensuring the app is updated or reinstalling.

PS - also check the HDD light and CPU/Memory/Disk performance in Task Manager. If resources are pegged that might explain issues.

Good luck!

I reinstalled Lightroom the files were the same. I forgot to mention that when I copied the files from the laptop to the pc I copied them on the card back in order to transfer as I’m still waiting for an external hard drive, it might have something to do with this? Or with the card reader that I’m using to connect the card on the pc?

On the camera when I previewed the files all were good and as I mention on my laptop I did opened all the photos and quick look and developed a few and there was no issues that’s why I eliminated the think that might be something with the camera sensor, camera that I have is a Sony a7r ii and is just 2 week since I bought it.
I’ll try another raw program later today after work, hopefully it will work. I tried as well to open with photoshop even though I’m the folder thumbnails we’re looking good while opening in photoshop had the same issues
