Work took me to Squamish on Friday, and so I brought my gear along. The Chief is an iconic rock formation, but getting a working photo was surprisingly difficult because of the proliferation of power lines. I got this from shot from behind the mall close to the north face of the Chief. The composition was what I had, but I'm interested in feedback about the processing.
You do have a good composition here, Scott, of a spectacular subject. However, I think the light was not favourable to photography, with the cliff in shadow. This means that it is virtually impossible to bring out the interesting contours in it. Imagine glancing light on that face! It could transform it. Light is usually critical in landscape work, and this image illustrates the problem when it's not conducive to what you're trying to show. That's one reason people keep going back repeatedly to familiar locations. Often, you're just not going to get what you want at a given time.
Your image looks like a painting, which is fine in its own right. I've tried editing it, but to no improvement.
I completely agree with Chris. You could not have done better. The light was not your friend this day.
Thank you for the feedback. :)
