A while back in another context, there was some discussion about methods of separation. There are several, including for instance selective focus (easiest with long lenses but not always,) color, and lighting. This is an example of the latter. I was walking through the Tango and this vine was just hanging down along the path. I had a 20mm lens on the Nikon, so I knew I had too much depth of field to get any separation from selective focus, so I turned on the flash.
