Hi all,
I've not posted in a while, but looking at my previous posts compared to this evenings mission down at Lake Geneva, im quite pleased with my progress - your opinions and constructive criticism most welcome!
This is Chateaux De Chillon, and Island castle on Lake Geneva here in Switzerland. As I drove the hours journey down through driving rain, I really wondered what the point was, and nearly turned the car around. Im pleased I didn't! As I reached my location, I could see a clearing in the storms heading my way, and this coincided extremely nicely with sunset - sometimes you just get lucky I guess!
Hi Robin, I am so glad you didn't too! This is beautiful! So nicely done!
Beautiful, Robin! I like the softening effect of the long exposure on the water & clouds, suiting the tranquil scene. An interesting composition. You just balance the large expanse of that softly glowing water with that sliver of rock and tree on the right, and so on. Maybe the castle could be left a bit darker, since it appears to be in shadow, considering where the sun is? It just looks a tiny bit unnaturally light to my eye.
Thanks Chris, the exposure of the castle was niggling me too - ive just darkened it a touch - its subtle but i think makes a difference - thanks for the feedback
I think you could still go further (1-2 stops?) and not "lose" the castle, Robin.
Great picture Robin. I really like the softness to it, not just the clouds, but the overall colors.
Thanks very much Shawn 👍🏻
I like the peaceful and calming tones in your final image, Robin. I imagine that when you look back at this photo years from now, you will still vividly remember the backstory to how you achieved it.
I agree with Chris' comments about exposure and the only other critique I would add is to experiment with compositions that include more of the land camera-right, should you revisit. As-is, the composition is a little imbalanced for my taste.
I was not familiar with this landmark, but after Googling it, saw vantage points to capture more of the land. Just food for thought, however, many positives to take from the shoot.
Great - things to consider.. Thanks Robert
