Pablo Santos's picture

Follow me

No, the title is not an invitation to follow me on social media... instead, it describes the part of the story behind this photo. I arrived early at Bow Lake and there was nobody there shooting, which is rare given that this is one of the most famous locations in the Canadian Rockies. After spending some time scouting the area, two photographers arrived and started following me around the lake shore and taking pictures from similar vantage points.

Clouds started rolling in and eventually the other photographers left. I kept shooting knowing that overcast cloudy skies can add drama to photos.

Hope you like it. Feedback is welcome. Thanks

I do like it. I would brighten the foreground a tad. Possibly some color in the pebbles?

I could add a bit more warm tones to the pebbles in the foreground, giving the picture a bit more pop. I think it's a great idea. Thanks for the feedback!

I agree that this would take this really good photo and make it great! Nice work!

Thanks for your kind words, Ruth.

Nice image. Pablo! I imagine you were relieved when the others left. Your patience paid off. I'm torn about Marcia's suggestions; I think that's what I would have done, but I wonder if it would detract from the dark, brooding mood you've evoked here.

In case you don't know, as the original poster you can add more images under the one on the left (i.e. not just in this "Comments" section), in case you wanted to share some edits. It would be interesting for us to see.

I agree with Chris regarding the tones & mood, but like those elements as you have presented them. For me, something is a little imbalanced with the foreground rocks (understanding that this is how they naturally lay). Regardless, the mountain itself looks awesome and I'd definitely like to see some of your other images from this shoot.

Thanks for your feedback everyone! I added two slight variations of the photo. The second photo has some warping to balance the foreground and center both the rocks and the mountain in the frame (as Robert suggested). The third picture includes the same warping but also some color to the foreground pebbles. If I had to pick one, I think I'd go with the second. What's your opinion?

I agree and also prefer the cooler tone, Pablo - looks great.

Thanks Robert!
