All nicely done Jeremy! My only suggestion is to move the birds out of center. You've got fantastic focus and color here. All round awesome job!

The second one is my favorite.

Thanks Ruth

Great work Jeremy, I agree with Ruth on her suggestions to improve the compositions.

I really like that fourth one, sort of finding the hidden subject in the scene. The depth of field is nice with blurred foreground and background, I would love to see some more of that if you get the chance in future shoots.

Thanks Joe

These are difficult images technically, Jeremy! Pros lug massive 600/4 lenses that cost as much as a car to get magnification and shallow DOF to isolate small wildlife, and for good reason. You've done well here, and I agree with Ruth that the second.is best, because you've isolated the bird - it's more distinct against the background. I agree with her about putting the birds off-centre, preferably looking into, not out of, the image, in general.

The light is still a bit "flat" and cold (bluish, although we can cheat with WB!). If it's possible to get it side-lighting the birds, it will reveal their shape best. These are the two reasons for shooting at those times ("golden hour") I can think of - the low angle and warm colour of the light.

Thanks Chris

Great pictures! I have only tried to shoot wildlife once on a long trip. I tried capturing birds during that trip and it was difficult to say the least. You battle trying to capture the bird without the distracting limbs and leaves, and you need a relatively high shutter if you want to capture any of them in flight (not to mention their heads are always turning). I really like 2 and 4, as they have the most color. I am impressed with all the different birds you captured!

I agree with Ruth, Joe and Chris. I would definitely move the white balance to bring more warmth to the pictures. I would also try and bring your iso down a bit if you can. The bird detail is great, but the backgrounds are a bit grainy.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks Shawn
