Hi Eddy - This is a Tropical Bird of Paradise Strelitzia reginae (which translates to "Royal Diversity of Life" as an interesting botanical tid bit) and can be commonly called Crane Plant in some regions.
This photo is a great one of the plant but needs a lot of clean up behind it. The spider web and whatever the yellow thing bottom left
have to go.
I think one of the biggest learning curves you are going to face as you try more color/botanicals/nature from your B/W street work is background. In street photography, it is much more forgiving when there is a car in the background or a trash can on the corner or ..... In this type of work the background is as important as the subject. Totally different mind set. Welcome to the insanity of looking all around your subject while focusing on your subject!
I'd love to see this with a little more processing Eddy! Your eye for an interesting subject obviously translated to this genre and I can't wait for more!
Thank you... will try that on the next one with the background darker...need to wrap my head around... much appreciated.. first thing is learning plants by name...lolo
