Took the opportunity to visit the Othello Tunnels near Hope, B.C. today. The tunnels themselves were jammed with site-seers, so I took photos mostly of the raging Coquihalla river. Here they are in the order I like them. Any feedback is welcomed. A fifth photo I just added. Bridal Veil Falls nearby. Lots of mist in the air from all the spray. Tried a de-haze preset. Not too happy with it. How do (or can I) fix this one?
I actually prefer the middle three to the first, which is too contrasty for my tastes, Scott. I'd have preferred a slower shutter speed, but that's me (and a running-water cliche!).
From my own experience, the last one looks as if it suffers from low light and high contrast Mine are unsalvageable, as far as I can see. It's also surprisingly vignetted, considering you're not shooting wide open. Is this a jpeg of the unprocessed RAW file?
Thanks for your feedback, Chris. These are literally snapshots as we were walking through the abandoned train tunnels, except for the last one which I could not figure out. I took my time, used an ND8 filter, and struggled mightily in post production trying to get rid of the haze created by all the mist coming off of the falls, and the blue cast at the top of the photo which was coming from somewhere.
Hi Scott. What editing software do you use?
Lightroom 6
Hi Scott - I also prefer the middle three, and particularly the forth image. That last image is tough. I don't know enough about lightroom to help you out with that one.
On the first image, I would recommend using a brush tool and increased exposure on the left cliffs to bring out some definition. if could just be my monitor but this image looks dark and the cool layering of the bends in the stream aren't as visible as they might be. Maybe?? Here's a stab at it.
I really like the series. I think the forth one is outstanding.
:)
