Pitfalls of Autofocus...

I started laughing today looking at this picture from several years ago. I thought maybe everyone might have a laugh too since we post a lot of serious pictures and comments up here.

Well, I took a 100-400 IS II down to Costa Rica ahead of a safari trip to get some practice. And, as you can see, it was a good thing that I did. I still left autofocus on during the safari but it certainly has pitfalls especially when trying to capture birds.

And speaking of pitfalls, too bad the bird isn't in focus. I couldn't believe its wings weren't open before it jumped!

Happy Hump Day folks.

That's about as shocking as Muybridge's horse having all four feet off the ground during a gallop.

Some birds do jump & gain airspeed before they spread their wings. Frogmouths here, a small owl-like predator, do just that. I think in their case the silent launch reduces the chance of the prey being alerted. I've never heard a frogmouth except when calling for a mate, or the noise when they strike their prey. I suggest you be very wary of your little yellow mate!

Time for a funny comment from bird.

Maybe he just died...
