Just wondering if these had enough punch or should i give it more...By the way if you live near eastern Pennsylvania you need to visit this place ..Ricketts Glen State Park it's amazing!!!!
Probably my favorite waterfall hike in the country. If you have ice gear, it's wicked cool in the winter when everything is frozen. There's another unmarked waterfall hike just west of there that's equally as good if you're in for going off trail a bit. Good look with your shutter speed. Nailed that. I personally would like to see a bit more of the canopy for the color, but that's just personal preference.
It's in state game lands number 13. Drive down Jamison City Road just north of ricketts glen visitors center. You have to Ford the river, but worth it.
Beautiful work, Joseph! Very painterly. Good job getting that dramatic foreground "fan" with the wide-angle lens, and I love the misty feel at the top in the first image. I wouldn't saturate the colours more, or push that light in the second, but that's just my personal preference for understatement.
For me these, especially the first image, are among your very best - and that's saying something, as you have a fine record and portfolio. Keep going - where will your artistic journey take you?
Thanks Chris i will try that suggestion, im still trying to figure out where the boundary line is for overdoing it on brightness and saturation. Hopefully this journey takes me to the land of perfection and flawlessness but as long as i keep learning and improving I'm happy ;)
That boundary is very personal! I don't think you & I would ever quite agree on where we'd draw it processing the same image, Joseph. You, like a lot of your compatriots, like strong colours a bit more than I do. No rights or wrongs here, just personal preferences.
I recall that you paint, & it strikes me that I'd want your stronger colours if you were painting these natural scenes, for some reason, whereas in photos they sometimes look unrealistic enough to distract me. Having said that, I almost always enhance the colours to a degree in my own "post", or the images tend to look a bit anaemic.
Thanks Chris and yes that is what I love about the arts. Diversity amongst the group and different opinions and outlooks on any given subject or piece. I’m currently weeding through the different styles of editing to find “my own style” and I feel I’m settling somewhere in between real and dramatized now I need to find consistency in my portfolio.
Sure you need to have that consistency, Joseph? Versatility could possibly also be a good attribute to cultivate, and while you do have something of a signature style - lower-key, fairly saturated, coolish colours, and often moody or dramatic atmosphere with invariably good composition - there's also monochrome, some subjects lend themselves to high-key rendering, low contrast, softer colouring, etc.
I think of styles as just looking like it comes from the same individual not so much different look but just the fact you know that it came from that artist so yeah I’m up for black and white high-key low-key or different ways to deal with color, I just want it to be recognized as my work not me trying to copy someone else
These are great, excellent natural processing. What lens are you using?
Thanks Francisco! Samyang 14mm and i rented the D750 for this trip
Wow, never would have guessed you were shooting at 14mm. Well done.
Yup that prime was my first non kit lens now on a ff it rocks
So beautiful....
Thank you Adany!
You saved the best for last Joseph.
Thanks Scott!!!
