Matthew Trabold's picture

Misty Mountains

This photo was taken in the Dolomites. As the sun was setting magnificent mammatus clouds formed. It was difficult to capture the sheer scale of the clouds but I made my best attempt. In addition, mist began clinging to the tops of the trees really adding to the spectacular landscape! The other photo was taken during sunrise at a separate location. Let me know what you think!

you could do something like this

Purple Rain approaching, Joseph?

yeah why not

Nice images. I checked your website; your portfolio is great, lots of unique work.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback 😊

I do like the second one, Matthew. And I like the mono. I might have brought up the shadow level in the rock a bit if it didn't kill the drama, because the textures are so beautiful, but I do really like your image - its composition, amount of cloud blur, and the post-processing.

The first would be better for me if it didn't have such overpoweringly strong diagonals, in the two tree-covered ridges. These don't harmonise with the mountain & sky part, which appeals. I don't know that there's much you could do about this. I'd wonder about panning right, or zooming in on the mountains & sky alone, although neither might have worked. You were there, & I wasn't!

Your feedback is excellent, thank you very much! Yea the first one is tricky because the right side has the star of a mountain that I cropped because it looked like it didn't belong.
