The way of the west

The beginning of a ten mile hike with my wife and another couple we are dear friends with. As I was just about to start I noticed the billowing clouds over the human figure on the ridge on the right known as the "Priest" and the rocks to his left are the nuns. The lone rock on the left is known as castle rock. This image doesn't give the viewer the perspective of just how MASSIVE these titans are, overlooking the entire valley and how massive the clouds were as we started our hike in Castle Valley. Moments like this capture the heart of what we love about the land, timeless in its beauty and immutable as it changes every day in ways beyond our perception...the way of the west.

EPIC SHOT. 5 STARS

Cheers! The hike was worth it!

Beautiful capture, extra points for the bird soaring through.

He belonged!

Great job again, Mark! I don't know the place, but you do convey a sense of vastness and a kind of emptiness. I get a sense of my own smallness & insignificance looking at it.

Thx Chris! This is one of the most "deceptive" size to scale images I've ever taken. Those structures are MASSIVE, dominating the entire valley so yes, the viewer is small. I want to return in October when the foliage on our walk has changed from green to golden yellow...worth the price of admission.

Great shot, lovely moment caught.

Thanks Stuart!
