Long exposure without ND-filters

On my vacation at an island called Koster in Sweden, I forgot my ND-filters. I don't often user these filters, so I constantly forget to bring them along. To take this picture with long exposure, I took 55 photos with 1/10s and combined these in camera with average blending mode.
I´m so happy that in camera technology can help out in these kind of situations.

Clever thinking, Kjell! You managed a beautiful image doing this. The sombre mood and subdued but rich colours appeal greatly to me. I wouldn't even have a clue whether my camera has the capability to do what you did here. But I tend only to go out with the full kit (about 10kg, excluding tripods) including spare filters... I'd be in trouble if I had to travel light!

I have become more and more light traveler, so I try to find ways to leave gear home. Some years ago, I always brought a lot of gear for all kind of trips. So on mountain hiking I ended up with 5-6kg extra on my backpack.
But I still always bring my Pentax KP, 50-135mm, 24-70mm and 12-24mm.

BEAUTIFUL

I take many multi-frame pictures and blend them in Photoshop. There is an occasional success. The results are very different to long exposure with moving objects being turned into ghostly wisps if there are enough frames being used, and noise being decreased on smooth surfaces.

I normally use smart object and blendingmodes in photoshop. The adventage is that I can try different blendingmodes, and even combine several blendingmodes from the same pictures. In camera you can not, but that is in that way more like a single long exposure.
But this time I wanted to try the in camera multiexposure and blendingmodes, and I think it turned out well.

Yes, it turned out very well.

Do you think the effect is significantly different than if you'd used ND filtration, Kjell? You've got me a bit curious now!

Hi. There are as I have experienced to major differences. Bright light from a boat, car and like, will almost disappear with average blending in camera. More pictures makes these kind of light disappear more. And since the result contains of several pictures, you might get dots instead of line if the car, boat moves too fast.
But for smoothing water movements and clouds this is very similar, and also for getting ridd of moving objects in a picture like peoples and cars in a city.
