Sprague Lake, RMNP

I spent an afternoon in Rocky Mountain National Park and came away with three images of Sprague lake that I really enjoy. I can't decide between them. I'd love to know your thoughts on which one is the strongest portfolio shot, and what I can do next time to improve the shot even more.

Of these three, I like the second one the most. I prefer the definition between the rocks and the reflected sky.

But ... without a lot of post processing, I don't know if I'd call any of them a "strong portfolio" shot. The opposite shore in all three is just so bland from the direction of the light that it detracts from the rest of the photo. Ideally, I'd like to see Number 2 with the sun behind you or off to one side. Then I think you'd have the makings of something special.

I really like the last one but a lot of detail is lost in the shadows.the colours in the sky is beautiful. Maybe you could stack them in photoshop and slightly mask in details from the middle shot possibly then I think it would be a stronger photo (if that makes sense). Also I think the rock at the bottom would be a lot stronger higher up in the frame instead of right at the bottom.

But I think they are great shots from a banging location man!

Thanks for the input!

That makes sense. I may try and fiddle with the raw, see if I can pull more detail out of trees. If not, then possibly masking in some from the middle shot.

Yeah, the rock is a bit disappointing on my end. This is an uncropped image, so I have what I have. Next time I'm at that location (looking to head back in the fall) I know to back up a touch to keep it from hugging the border.

I really do love the second and third images but agree that playing with the raw might make them even more awesome! Can't wait to see the final results!
