STORM SUNRISE

When shooting seascapes I often find myself adapting to the weather conditions which can quickly change a scene from ethereal to quite dramatic. On my third visit to this location hoping to make a sunset image I noticed the massive storm clouds quickly approaching from the South. As I watched Mother Nature preparing to unleash herself upon the landscape I had but one opportunity to compose myself to make an image to reflect how I felt. Images like this, Storm Sunrise best illustrate my passion landscape photography and why I will constantly revisit a location to capture the moment, mood and spirit of the landscape.

There is too much blurring, especially in the clouds for me. But that's my taste, and I'm extremely new to photography, so please don't take offense. I think more defined clouds and water would give the photo a better sense of a big storm rolling in. That big dark blue cloud should be more gray - again for me. Hope I made sense and hope that helps.

Hi Liz, Thanks for the comments and valued suggestions. I sincerely do appreciate the critique and would never be offended by yours or anyone else recommendation how to improve this image. Notably I will be visiting this location sometime next month when the sun rises over the mountain and will try using a shorter exposure time as suggested. :)

It's a beautiful location!! I love the detail on the sand!! If love to see your next shot of it!! I should have added all that originally. Got sidetracked trying to help. Lol. Im still learning too. I love this group as they give great advice!

I'll definitely post Liz. Looking forward to discussing further with you.

Since you seem to be aiming for a mood. Kreyg, I'd be tempted to emphasise it. I'm inclined to agree with Elizabeth about that (rather cyan-ish) blue in the clouds - not quite "grim" (?) enough. Here's an edit along the lines I'm talking about. I've made a few tweaks which I could detail, but mainly it's adding an S shape in Curves to increase mid-tone contrast, and I've added a vignette which is heavier at the top.

Hey thanks Chris. In fact I just got in from shooting this location this morning. As predicted the Sun has begun moving over the mountains and I was able to capture a Sun burst. I'll upload later this week.

Hi Chris. Here's the picture I made yesterday.

This has got more drama, Kreyg! Good composition, too. I like your Andy Goldsworthy touch. The stormy scene has its own, different appeal.

Thanks Chris. I'm still working at it. :)
