I like the first particularly, Jeremy. Beautiful colours, and judging by the second one, you got down very low to frame that log nicely.
In such a situation, with that sun disappearing, I'd be trying to take a number of images, with different framing, focal lengths and varying the camera position. In terms of CC, personally I'd prefer either the sky or the water emphasised, as with the central horizon they seem to compete for attention. With apologies for the rough cloning, here are two versions of what I mean.
