James Hadley's picture

Sunrise at Buttermere

Photographed in early October. I was really lucky with the mist and low cloud that formed over the lake. The first image suffered a tad from camera shake, but I still really like it. Pano is 11 shots using a 200mm lens and was an absolute nightmare to stitch!

Critique very welcome.

Hey there, James. I like the light-dark contrast in your wide shot. Lends nice drama... pulls my eye through the shot.

The first shot... initially I was stumped. The mist, maybe? Too much haze higher up? But then as my eye absorbs the landmass, I like those diagonal angles that emerge. Neat mystery.

Thanks Cathleen, yes the first shot, to be honest the exposure is a little long which has not helped the softness of the image. I did try adding some contrast but it didn't fit the mood of the morning.I have several versions of this shot and I kept coming back to this one as I quite like the mood.

Softness! That's the term that escapes me. It sounds better... more constructive than fuzzy, out of focus, etc. :)

The one that speaks to you must be the version worth working on. I try to apply that theory to my writing projects.
