The far right hand side just seems off to me; it gets dark and we loose details, just not matching the rest of the vista. So I balanced the crop using the mountains as a guide. Then tweaked the mountains with a sharpen and slight contrast adjustment.
So my CC suggestions: Crop, Sharpen Mnts and slight Contrast adjust.
Love this one, Roger! Beautiful and majestic. I'm a sucker for clouds.
I can see Joe's point, and I like his edited version, but I prefer your original for the reasons you say. There's a sligtht sense of threat, that the weather is closing in, which adds a tension to the image I like, as if some narrative is beginning to be suggested, beyond the portrayal of nature's grandeur.
I agree with Chris on the weather being important- I've been looking at this as a picture of clouds with mountains, rather than the other way around (although without the mountains, it wouldn't work. Most cloud pictures are boring). I've got to go with the crop though, because, for some reason that's hard for me to articulate, the right side in the original strikes me as a little too "smudgy." Or it trails off or something. I just ain't feeling it as much.
I agree with you, Ryan! So I like Joe's version as well as Roger's. Given the choice, I prefer Roger's. I think they are two fine, slightly different images.
Interesting that Roger, Joe, you and I all noticed the same thing, but just react to it a little differently. I'm utterly bewildered what constitutes beauty, or aesthetic appeal, and why people agree even on such little things, and differ strongly on others.
Just my opinion and eye, of course...

Great photograph.
Joe - Thank you.
The right side's loss of detail was from approaching weather. Somehow I was drawn to it. I do like the crop you put on it.
Ahhh that's a tough call in that case. hum...

Chris,
Thanks for the comments. I very much appreciate the input!

Still a good pic though.

I guess it starts to prove the statement "The eye of the beholder"...
I believe this type of open discussion is super beneficial for everyone.
Now if I could just get brave enough to stay out in the weather long enough to get a lightning shot.
Great discussion is what I seek. Really glad to find it around here. :)
