Painted Hills of Oregon at Sunset

I think I tried getting too much in the photo. Didn't want mountains in the background but cropping them didn't leave enough head room. Your thoughts.

I could photoshop the mountains in the background and replace with blue sky.

Have your tried playing with light and shadow? Put the mountains in the back in shadow (burn) forcing the eye to the desired mnt range?

Sparked an interesting thought though.. Luminar 4 and it's sky replace, replace the sky with more mountains to balance the image? heh

After I posted I realized that I could try desaturating and darken background. I want to start using dodge and burn.

Great shot, love the different colors on the hills.

It's a tough place to shoot. I lived about an hour from there a few yrs back. Love your color on the painted hills... like the idea someone suggested about shading the sage covered hills. What about a closer crop to accentuate the patterns more? This would eliminate the hills in the background issue.

Thanks for commenting. I stitched this together so I have the tighter shots. The foot prints of people walking the hills are clearly visible. I was after the panorama of the point of the curve. I may post some of the tighter shots.

I really ought to put my phone down and look at this stuff on my laptop. Distracted viewer. Nice stitching. Just peeked at your gallery... looks like you had a fantastic journey through the West. Great shots.

Actually it was a 40 year journey.I moved to Oregon from Amarillo Tx in 1975. Moved to Alabama in 2017. In the 70's I worked on commercial fishing boats out of Depoe Bay and launched dories from Cape Kiwanda and Cannon Beach. That was before all the Intel money and Bay Area invaders. LOL

You're my elder, by a wee bit. I was still in school in Springfield. After the Air Force I moved out to Lincoln City for 13 yrs. Migrated East five yrs ago... after an unfortunate run-in with armed insurgents in Harney County... left my beloved Oregon for Upstate NY.

I know the incident. Oregon is full of wackos from the left and right.

Invaders, ain't that the truth. Vacation rentals got so contentious it drove us off the coast.

In 74 I saw my first "Don't Californicate Oregon" bumper sticker. Foretelling of things to come.

Governor McCall famously said once... "enjoy your visit, don't stay."

My dad muttered "damn Californians" a lot! As an adult... I'm inclined to just mutter, "damn humans." Ha.

I like this and I agree with your assessment about not enough headroom. I think more sky we give a sense of proportion and spaciousness.
