Rémi Carbonaro's picture

Sweeping the mountain tops.

The mountains of Palccoyo, Peru, covered by clouds and a roaring wind.

I shot this picture handheld, as the wind and hail would prove too much for my travel tripod. I aimed to display the shapes of the clouds as they roamed over the colored mountains of Palccoyo, a place recommended as an alternative to the decidedly too crowded Vinicunca and the Cerro de los Siete Colores.

To do so, I darkened the sky, added contrast to the mountains and brightened the clouds. I wanted to show fluidity in the cloudscape, so I didn't bother with a very short exposure as I often do in these kind of landscapes. This time I strive for a blurrier shape, and the dark clouds in the background helped me accentuate it.

Other worldly effect. Cloud chasing has its rewards.

You could post this in Minimalism, Abstract Experimental, Rémi. You often achieve a painterly, somewhat mystical effect, as here. It's a bit dizzying, with that spiralling cloud. Well done!

You often achieve a painterly effect - abstract painting in this case. There's a dizzying effect for me, with that spiralling cloud. Well done!
