Hi all,
This is my first post here, I was made aware of this site via the daily Instagram posts of always amazing work, and thought I’d join up and participate. This photo is of Thor’s Well at Cape Perpetua near Yachats Oregon. It’s a favorite spot of mine, and the timing is tricky. You’ve got to plan to be there at just the right time in terms of tide and the setting sun. I researched the tide charts and the Astro schedule and picked a time to go. I feel like I was rewarded for my efforts, at least to myself, and this is the result. All comments are welcomed and hope you’re all having a great evening!
Hiya, Aaron. Welcome. 13 yrs I lived up the coast from this shot, in Lincoln City. I still kick myself for not being savvy enough to get this shot.
I've seen some extraordinary shots of Thor's Well. Yours holds its own in that company. The added bit with the starburst sun beams... makes this a gem. :)
Thanks very much!
Hi Aaron, and welcome. I trust you'll find this a friendly and constructive forum, as I do.
Congratulations on such an excellent first post. Your prep served you well, and the final image is impressive. The place looks pretty scary, as if Thor might swallow you up or something.
The only CC I can think of is that you could perhaps bring up the shadows in those dark rocks without killing the mood, and a subtle one is that the weed on those rocks looks oddly bluish or at least cyan - perhaps it's like that. There is also a cyan cast in the water above the rocks at right. I've tried to amend these a bit here, I'm not sure how successfully. Changing the cast in the weed was hard, so I've slightly warmed the overall colour balance as well, just because of the weed's cyan cast.
