My Favorite Place to Shoot

The beach is probably my favorite place to shoot. The waves/water, the clouds, the colors, the atmosphere is always different allowing you to go to the same spot at different times and get very different photos.

Here is a black and white from my most recent shoot of the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle North Carolina.

I love this photograph. I am assuming this is a long exposure.

Thank you! The exposure was around 1.5 seconds. So yes it was a long exposure but not too long.

Yep, the beach will always have great variety in patterns. I like when little beach rocks are turned into miniature hoodoos by the wind-carved sand.

I'm jealous - there's not too many opportunities for beach/per shots in rural Vermont!
You've definitely nailed the exposure and timing, long enough to create those great leading lines from the receding wave.

Just wondering if a slight tweak in the cropping might improve the balance - included just for a comparison (and as I like toying about....). As always, be sure to edit to your own taste

Well done Kyle!

Thanks Alan! If I ever print it I probably will tweak the crop a little bit. Possibly eliminate some of the sky and crop out the fisherman, which I debated removing but ended up leaving. Basically pull the crop down from the top left corner a little bit. Phillip gave me the same advice in the black and white group and I like how he cropped it a lot. Something like this.

Yes, that works. I hadn't even noticed the fisherman LOL.
I do prefer the balance in this shot - I thought cropping from the left may cause an issue with the pier landing on the beach but you proved me wrong.

I like the feel of the motion in this image. Black and white is a plus.
