Thick fog was rolling in on a small lake, and I took this shot. What do you think? Did I get your eye go to the right subject?

If you can visit this place again, you should definitely take more photos like this. You might want to create a mood board for this one. This absolutely has potential.
I love these kind of scenes, and actually struggle with them -- the mist already adds so much mood and depth that I'm never sure how far to go with processing, etc.
I notice two small white specs on the shore across from you that I would remove. Maybe a few other minor clean-up things.
I did that and a few things to enhance the color contrast, warming highlights and cooling shadows (mostly playing with curves and split toning), added some vignette to try to draw attention to those trees in the middle and the distance beyond, and a bit of orton effect, and came up with this. It is quite possibly over-dramatic, I really just haven't processed an image in a few days and wanted to play around a bit :)
