Pastel Harmony (edited)

As the light faded at my favourite lookout at Marengo near Apollo Bay in Victoria, faint pastel shades prompted me to wonder if a decent image could be coaxed out of them. I was surprised how well it worked out. A pure skyscape.

The second image is a more recent reworking from scratch. I thought the dull colours at the base detracted from the image, but maybe it's more subtle for that. This image was also made with printing in mind, and also using it as the banner image for a potential exhibition, so I didn't want it too understated. My prints tend to look duller and less contrasty than the same image on screen.

I've added the original SOOC jpeg for comparison, to show what can be done with unpromising captures at times. The edits are from RAW, but I keep my in-camera jpegs as close to the RAW as Nikon will allow.

Gorgeous and Soft. I Really like this.

Thanks, Joe.

Images like this don't usually do as well on places like 500px, but I'm actually a big fan of them. This is a good one for sure! Would happily hang on my wall.

Thanks for your kind words, Yuriy! Part of a "Big Sky" project. I am thinking of a print on 17" roll paper, so it's nice and immersive.
