Picture taken in August 2019, High Sierra Yosemite National Park, to the north of Tenaya Lake, known as Weston Bowl (Edward Weston posted picture of these trees), some post processing to highlight the foreground using Affinity. Any comments or suggestion - thanks in advance.
Increasing the separation between the foreground trees and background mountain would strengthen the image. As it stands, both are grey and similarly exposed so fade together. Perhaps warm and lighten the foreground further. Selective sharpening may also increase separation.
I would likely crop some of sides for a vertically oriented composition, tightening the framing of the trees while keeping the moon.
Hi Ian. I liked the choice of subject. however, At first view this frame looks too busy to me. I assume, you wanted to give context to your main subject and also the moon. of course you know the location and limitations at best. however just conceptually, I may have composed the frame by going closer enhancing the scale of trees. world have tried adding the the foreground (rocks or less busy shrubs) as contextual element. to give depth I see the possibilities of background as water element behind. if mountain trees are unavoidable, could be made blurred by opening up aperture. with moon the sky or less cluttered mountain side with shallow aperture.
if you are not in sync, please ignore above. wishing you fulfilment in your photography. cheers.
Thank you for your comments - this was my first post and I appreciate it all - I will try to incorporate the comments on warming & lightening the foreground with the crop
thanks again
Did some cropping and highlighting the foreground trees and any comments are welcome - shot with Canon 7D with 18-135 mm EFS lens.
