Cloud and fog gathering at sunset before an impending snow storm. Taken at Abisko, Sweden, up in the Arctic Circle in early December of last year. Due to the nature of the far northern latitudes, this was taken at "sunset", which was at approximately 1 in the afternoon. By 2 or 3pm, the whole area was in complete darkness, where we lied in wait before searching for the Aurora Borealis later that night.
Great job, Liam! Love the soft glow - almost Turneresque, but maybe subtler than JMWT himself. And I like the balance between the two visual masses of the light and the mountain, underlined by the slightly sloping, waving foreground, in your simple composition. Nicely understated work. I like it a lot.
You could post this in "Minimalism, Abstract, Experimental" too.
Thank you! I wish I had my tripod at the time. Light was fading fast, it was cold as hell and I was on my way back to the hostel so I only had time for a quick few shots. My least favorite part about this photo is its graininess when zoomed in, due to it being at ISO 1600. I am happy with how sharp it came out though, considering low-light conditions at ~150mm if I remember correctly.
I appreciate your comments on this. Its simplicity is one of the reasons I like it so much and decided to share. It was nice, though, that I really didn't have to do much post-processing on it--Mainly cropping out telephone wires and some noise reduction, and a bit of purple added to the highlights; though, it looked quite similar this originally.
I'll share it there too, thanks for the suggestion! I'm pretty new to this community, I just like it as a place for photographers to share and critique work; I don't get much genuine feedback on Instagram. I hope to become more active here, and the support is encouraging!
Welcome aboard, Liam! I hope you find FS as friendly and constructive as I do. (Not that I've ever heeded anyone's advice myself!) You'll certainly get feedback in B&W, Landscape & Nature, and Abstract, etc. There is virtually no trolling.
Personally, I don't mind a bit of noise, and it has to be pretty bad to be very visible, let alone objectionable in a print, even A2 and beyond.
This is Gorgeous!!!
Thanks a ton!
Great work!
Much appreciated Greg!
