Le Cirque des Gens

Le Cirque des Gens is a meander of the Ardèche river (south of France). In the center exists a limestone cliff. The ridge slowly enlighted with the last sunrays enhances the idea of a lonely shape, like an island. The reflection adds an esthetic feeling to the photography.
I wanted something simple, almost minimalist in spite of the size of the landform.

Hi David! Good to see you back - haven't seen anything from you for a while.

I like this image, very "you" with its restraint and subtle colours. I'm glad you haven't tried to make the sky more "interesting", as many might. I think you've achieved your stated aim with the simplicity, not making the rocky ridge too grand.

This image evokes a calm, serene, peaceful and contemplative mood for me, which I find very appealing. I could look at it for a long time, and not tire of it. One of your best. Well done!

Hi Chris,
Thank you so much for such a nice message.
To obtain that photography, I walked upstream in the river along several hundred of meters. Really easy to go to. I wanted something calm to share the atmosphere and the feeling. Once arrived on the sport, I climbed on a big rock to get a wider and deeper view and see the reflection of the hill.
I have been wating forr by the end of the sunset in order to have a sunray line on the ridge on the plateau. Just a subtle line. No more.
As for the sky, at the beginnnig I was regretting the lack of clouds. but it seems this not to be a lack.
I have a panoramic version of this photography, actually with more details.
If I have a nice sunrise, I will be in the river at 6 in the morning on next saturday to catch sunrays below a high natural arch.
Best regards,
David

This one has its own appeal, David, but I prefer the first.

BTW as the orignal poster, you can edit this whole page, and, for instance add images on the left, so viewers can scroll directly between them.

I do prefer the first one too. More refined.
