Some people don’t realize that some parts of South Africa see winter snow on occasion albeit mostly on the mountains and more rarely in lower altitudes. This is an HDR (5 exposures). I made the white balance for the mountains (top 1/3 of the photo) a little colder than the rest of the photo and not sure if it works.
Since you ask, Charl, the image does look somehow unnatural to me, especially just above the mountain skyline, where there is a pale halo in the clouds. The change in colour balance from top to bottom is OK - maybe just a bit too blue at top. It's still quite cool at the bottom.
Thanks Chris. That pale halo is also in the raw file. The clouds were forming right on top of the peaks with light from behind because of the sunset. Something like that usually gets exaggerated with too much clarity or dehaze but I tried to not go crazy. Will maybe edit from scratch just to see if I can get another result.
Ironic, isn't it,Charl? We (or should I say "I"?) get so used to seeing the haloes caused by processing that we see them when they're not there!
A lay person (i.e. non-photographer) would never have seen the luminosity above the mountains as a problem, just a beautiful natural phenomenon.
Ha. Yes. I am still re-editing! Because it bothers me too much now. 😂
