Changing Tonality

When I work processing my images, at a point the workflow ends considering the image is achieved with desired Tonality "ON my SCREEN" calibrated Mac.

But when the same is uploaded on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, it invariably becomes randomly darker. Not allowing them to fiddle, I have streamlined image pixel sizes to their acceptability but the result is same.

Did you all face the same? any solution? Thanks.

Firstly, it might have something to do with your color space, or lack of:

With that said, I am also seeing IG and FB darkening images. Twitter and Fstoppers does not. At least with the IG app, you can make adjustments before posting. I typically just slightly lift the shadows.

Other things to consider is I’ve noticed even on the same computer, browsers are different. On my PC, Chrome (or chrome based) browsers are slightly darker than Firefox. However, on my Macbook, it’s the opposite.

Solution wise, I just base things on my main machine and monitor knowing it may look different elsewhere.

Hi Black Eddie. Thank you very much for your insights. Will check each of your point and suggestion. Was unaware of most of them.

Am using PS - "Export as" to convert. at my guess it has maximum control. Checking back, yes I was not embedding colour profile. I had read somewhere that few social media portals remove meta and any embedded information to save their disk space even if its just 3-4 kb. But now on I will start embedding it as standard as I used same image at all social portals.

I also registered seeing the screenshot that FS compressed the image to 1000 x 1000. I had exported the image to 1080 x 1080. Just to avoid their compression, I have set my common standard to 1080 max on longer side. SRGB.

Also, did you ever feel, FS upload reduces sharpness?

If FS too is reading this, Kudos to FS team for providing such good platform for creative discussions.
Cheers.

Yeah, looks like they have different size rules between Groups and Profiles.

From what I tell,
-- Groups have a max of 1500px horizontal / 1000px vertical.

-- Profiles have a max of 1500px horizontal / 1200px vertical.

As far as FS compression, they are going to compress even if you meet the pixel size requirements. If you upload a 5 meg image, they are not going to host that size. It’ll definitely be compressed to roughly 700 KB or less. This is why I don’t bother with all these specs. I export at 3000px long at 100% jpg quality sRGB. I let the sites figure it out.

As for FS sharpness, I haven’t noticed a discernible difference. I think sometimes it may seem less sharp because you’re viewing a smaller image compared to the original larger image which can show more of the detail.

Hi BZE. size restriction is another restriction. anyways I got the point you are trying to make.
Thanks for interacting.
