This is one of my favourite images from the Canadian Rockies. I found this location unexpectedly from following the wild flowers while looking for compositions.😅 I thoroughly enjoyed the experience here as I was completely alone in the middle of nowhere. This is one of many places in the Canadian Rockies that have yet to be discovered. We just need to go out, explore, and live in the moment!

How about this alternative? The interesting sky is more in balance with the water below. The long exposure works better here because there is less of that water in the picture.
I have to disagree with you. I think Manuel´s composition is much better. It draws the spectator in to the picture by having the foreground so closely. It’s almost like being in the water taking a picture yourself. The sky is more dramatic with, and the contrast between the warm light in the clouds and the cold blue water in well balanced. Nice picture from Manuel, and for me a good composition and color balance. I like.
Thanks a lot! That's exactly what I was going for. I do have another shot of this place from a different angle in a landscape orientation. Appreciate both your input here. Cheers!
It depends on what was meant as the original subject. The water seems to be it in the original.
I prefer the original aspect. The 1:1 version kind of squashes the image a bit and loses the flow created by the longer length of river.
It was precisely that long creamy and silky river that caused me to do the radical crop. Maybe I have seen that effect too many times. The sky is important and my interpretation neatly balanced it with not too much of the river.
At first I thought that I would crop the top to emphasize the water. After looking at this great shot I realized that the clouds above the water in the foreground work in conjunction leading me to the mountain tops.
Thank you! That was my thought process with this composition. Cheers!
