Eric Thiessen's picture

Veil

A Vancouver Island classic. A place once so pristine now requires the use of tedious cloning to remove all the damage caused by people. What you don't see in this image are the dozens of initials, symbols and names left by those who don't understand the value of "Leave no Trace".

All this aside, my girlfriend and I sure enjoyed a late Sunday afternoon getaway to this pretty unique spot! No matter what the season, this waterfall never increases or decreases its flow. A constant, never changing life-source for this spectacular canyon.

I've lett feedback in your portfolio, Eric,, where I'm glad this image is posted, as I think it's one of your best in an already impressive portfolio.

I was surprised to read your age there, as this image in particular speaks to me of a maturity of vision and a degree of subtlety in its execution, even though the locale seems to be rather spectacular.

I'd be interested to see more images from you with this degree of abstraction. Well done.

Hey thanks a lot for the kind words Chris!

Hi Eric. Absolutely appreciate the composition, proportion, tonality and balance of this frame.

over the period to time, I have grown to appreciate photography as an art form. its the medium of expression and in greater sense a creation (Since the frame will be processed and never presented straight from camera)

the tree bark being there was a given thing. however, for me it is the disturbance for the flow of vision in otherwise abstract zen composition.

sharing a quick expression.

That's cheating, Vijay! ;-)

Hi Chris. This discussion may get lengthier. you may take it to a separate forum if you please.
the outcome will surely add to our respective creativity.

Damn! Well done on the cloning haha. I do enjoy the tree as its another given element leading diagonally to the base of the falls, but for simplicity reasons i see what you're saying!

I agree with Vijay about the aesthetics of the log - it jars a bit for me - but it's not as if it's just some stray Coke can. I'd never alter reality that much personally.

I guess that if you go back in a few years it'll be gone - or there could be two!
