Thoughts?

Hey everyone, what do you think of this?

I'm fairly happy with the result personally, but I haven't been shooting all that much recently and am a bit stuck on the "pointy mountain with water in the foreground"-type compositions.

It is beautiful. However the second peak at the edge seems to distract me. But the snowy slopes look very good and cannot be cropped either. So it is your call.

Hi Sridhar, thanks for your feedback. Yeah I know what you mean, I was already worrying about the peak on the left when I saw pictures of the location before my trip. It didn't bother me as much on location, but it's definitely not ideal.

Wonderful photo. However, there is too much empty sky. Crop as much as you can. The best part is the colors, reflections and flowers. Ideally, the sky on the right would have some clouds.

Hey Charles, thank you for the comment. Usually I agree with cloudless skies being a bit boring, but to me there's enough going on in the scene as it is (not that I had a choice anyway). I might play around with the crop a bit more though to see if less sky would look better. Thanks!

Sure. I like it better even just cropping it just above the center peak. It looks good with those flowers too. It wouldn't be as interesting without that color.

Hi Lukas. First impression of this is pleasing and appealing to me. enjoyed the composition of all "grounds" (fore-mid-back).

Only if have to "find" something, the mountain at the left is creating a bit of imbalance. Sky is in need of some more interest and is occupying a little more space in frame in my option. I too face similar issues.

unrest of pointy mountains could be the sign of varied creative flow in future. Looking forward to see more. cheers.

Thanks Vijay, agreed on the left peak being a bit distracting. Unfortunately not much I could do about that, except to go super wide horizontal, but then there's much less emphasis on the cool shape of the main subject. Interesting to hear that you also think it's too much sky, I'll try playing around with the crop a bit perhaps. Thanks!

It's just fine by me, Lukas. I LIKE the "empty" sky that is "in need of some more interest", with all due respect to Charles and Vijay, whose opinions, and whose own images I genuinely do respect. Its pale soft tones, and lack of clouds evoke for me a sense of vastness. With the stillness of the scene evident in the water, I get a feeling of the evening chill, and utter peace which I find very appealing.

I love a dramatic, turbulent sky too - who doesn't? But it's not the only way. In fact, it's a bit of an FS cliché.

And the composition, a sine qua non for a decent image, is fine by me - actually often quite tricky to get right with these mirror-like reflections, much as they appeal to us.

You haven't lost your touch!

Thanks for the feedback Chris, it's much appreciated! I don't mind the empty sky either on this one, but it's good to hear other's opinions on this, that's why I posted the image after all. Did the peak on the left draw your attention out at all?

No, your framing uses it to good effect, maintaining a balance in the composition to my eye, Lukas.

After fallling on the central peak and its reflection and foreground, my gaze goes to that top left corner, and diagonally down to the right, to the distant peaks and warm colours. This creates the sense of huge distance, the clear air and sky evoking that sense of vastness I find appealing here.

Digging the shot and composition where all elements point to the mountain. Clear sky showcases the peak as the star of the scene. Nicely processed as well.

Cheers

Thank you Robert, good to hear you like it! I'm getting a few different opinions on the sky, so thanks for your vote :D Cheers
