New to editing

Hi, the only post production I have dealt with, so far, is the standard generic, free software such as google, Amazon, etc. These programs will straighten, crop and enhance color. That's been great so far but now I want to try a real "top line" editing software. My question is..will this software make ugly power lines and transformers disappear, will it mow the knee high grass in my foreground or can it blend in a concrete patch on that building? I am looking at Luminar 4, and if it will do such modifications, then software is my next purchase. Thanks, Mike

Photoshop lasso and clone tools are your best bet for fixing and removing unwanted clutter in a composition. There is a limit to this of course, unless you become exceptionally good with it. By far the most common editing software for photographers are photoshop and lightroom. That is the base where you should start. Then, once you manage to work your way around those, you can drop in some plugins like color effex pro or what-have-you.

Thanks, Trevor. You answered my question with ease and expertise. I think I'm ready for the next step. Happy Shooting, Mike

Most of the photo edit softwares can clone/stamp out unwanted objects. Depends on the photo in question too. With a little investigation you can find out how they all do it, so it comes down to the cost, ease, etc of any option. There are pros and cons to all of them. For example some will also fill the library function providing a one stop. Remember though, that the term is re-touching, not re-modeling.

Thanks a lot Ben, for helping me move to the next step in improving my photography skills. What a great site for anyone trying to get started in photography. Thanks to FS and all the community.

Differently to the Adobe Suites, Luminar is just pushing their market strategy on the "AI supermegaultra power Sky Replacement". And well, as a AI student, believe me or not but that's just smoke. Whatever you like to include or remove or ever reconstruct or anything you can imagine, you can do it in Photoshop, just by keep trying (that will take time, but then your hand would be much better than any other AI blablabla Image retouching). Working with layers in photoshop is the real bonus point, no other softwares give this feature.

ON1 does layers similar to Photoshop. It may not cover all Ps does, but you can work in layers.
