Abstract Falls

Continuing with the bit of an abstract theme I've been on lately, I had really liked this simple composition of a waterfall as viewed from above. This was actually a pretty difficult shot to get and ended up in the destruction of a polarizer, so I figured I should give the edit a shot to see if it was worth it lol. What do you think?

Just my sort of image, Trevor! I lke it. Love that turqouise water, and the contrast with the (?) moss. I'd go so far as to say it's your best image - must go in your portfolio! You could also post it in the "Minimalism, Abstract, Experimental" Group.

I love doing this kind of image at waterfalls, which often provide opportunities for "abstract" details, often much more interesting than the grand view, "scenic" image, which can be so postcard-y. Godafoss, anyone?

Pity about the polariser. Know the feeling. Now I carry spares of all my NDs and polariser in the field.

In your place, I can imagine myself zooming in closer as well with your 70-200, and changing orientation, as there are many potential compositions in this scene. I can (and usually do) spend hours at such places doing just that.

Thanks Chris! Yes, I really liked having a different perspective on the waterfall. This actually required leaning my camera over the edge on the tripod and was a little terrifying to do but I really liked it when I saw it right out of camera.

As much as I love grand landscape photography I've been liking these minimalist compositions lately. They seem more interesting as art pieces and there's so much room to do something new rather than to take the same picture everyone else has.

Agree, agree, agree, Trevor!

I like it. I have done some like this and really like the effect that you get with the slow shutter and the tight focus

Thanks John!
