I have been trying to line up this shot for years, but somehow could never get myself out of bed for it. Its the strangest thing since I have no qualms with getting up early to shoot the sunrise. I think part of it is the fact the I wanted this shot in fall and had been getting up for sunrise all summer. I am usually worn pretty thin by the time fall rolls around. But I am glad that I made the push this year. As a bonus I got to ride my bike down one of my favorite trails in prime conditions without a soul in sight. Now I can sleep in without feeling guilty.
Well, I'm glad you dragged yourself out of bed that day, Rory. Know the problem all too well!
You've managed a "keeper" with what could all too easily have been a postcard cliché. The layering and interweaving of the successive receding planes - trees left-to-right, first mountain right-to-left, next range left-to-right - really makes the image, keeping my eye in the frame, and creating a great sense of depth. My eye is gradually drawn from the trees to the hazy horizon, before feasting on that magnificent glowing colonnade again... and again... and...
Love it!
And your guitar playing, BTW - you look so young! ;-)
Thanks for your kind words Chris. Wish I could play the guitar like my name sake. I have tried, but have had more success with a camera in hand.
