Photo ratings

Hi guys,

Would you please check my profile and give me some ratings (perhaps some CC too)?

I’m not asking for high ratings to increase my average, just be honest and give whatever you think it deserves so I can have enough ratings to get averages and maybe be able to post some more photos!

Thanks in advance!
Have a great day

Hi Joel! A quick look at your portfolio suggests you posted a bit a year ago, around April this year, and quite a few images recently.

The impression I have formed about how to get the best from FS is to post images in Discussions for CC, AND to comment yourself. This gives people some of idea of who you are, and over time, friendly, stimulating relationships can develop, particularly between people who follow each other.

I don't like randomly posting ratings. Disgruntled members sometimes "bomb" others' portfolios with one- or two-star ratings, bringing their average down. What do you learn from "Needs work", let alone "Snapshot"?

I generally only rate images I'd give three or more stars, ignoring others. Just because I don't like an image, doesn't mean it's bad - just not appealing to me. In the same spirit, I (and most, I think) refrain from criticism in portfolios, confining it to these Discussion pages.

Having said that, I've rated some of your images in this spirit.

Keep shooting, posting, and commenting!

Thanks man. Completely agree with everything you said! But I’m quite a novice and sometimes don’t feel very confident about comment other people’s photos as I ‘don’t do better’ or ‘don’t know how to do it either’.
I’ve posted some recently because I deleted some old ones that no one ever rated... and the only reason I asked for ratings is to be able to continue to post newer photos without having to delete some old ones I like...
But I completely get what you’re saying and agree!

The main point of what I wrote is that commenting gets you noticed, and as Alan Brown, whom you follow, often says to newer, unsure-of themselves members, EVERYONE's opinion is valuable. And FS is pretty troll-free, so you're unlikely to get shot down.

People only join FS because they like photo imagery, and have some aesthetic sensibility of their own. Newer photographers often have a freshness of outlook. We can succumb to clichéd ideas with experience, as much as to cliché images. You have some fine images. I'm not particularly moved by wildlife images, but it's clearly a "thing" of yours - and good on you. Your zebra images transcend the wildlife genre, and appeal to me as pure form and art as well.

I find my little corner of the Community a very enjoyable and stimulating place.I've gained followers mainly by commenting, I'm pretty sure. And you're more likely to get ratings - and better ones - from followers than from random viewers.

I try to be pleasant and constructive. Recently a poster disagreed, rather strongly but politely with my comment and an edit I posted. To be honest, I felt a bit hurt, but remained gracious, and on reflection I think the poster had a point. He certainly made me think!

I myself go through my photos and delete ones that are older...that way I can start putting in new....also what Chris stated above is true...you can post in the forums...
