Colour or Black and White?

A bit of mist last night and the opportunity to get a shot I've been wanting of the Swansea Canal and St Peter's church in my local town of Pontardawe. But I cant decide which I prefer, the colour or the B&W version. What do you think?

I think such subtle colour adds a dimension to the image, Ian, without making it distractingly colourful. But I'm a fan of colour generally, and rarely want to make monochrome images, even in situations like this of very muted colours - that's my bias.

I like both images, by the way - all that inky blackness lends them an interesting sense of mystery. The colour adds to that - for instance the soft amber light at left suggests maybe an open window, whereas in the mono it's just a grey patch.

Well done!

I find my self drawn to the black and white image more than the color.

It just goes to show how subjective it all is - two comments expressing opposite preferences. I'm still torn between the two. I like the way the illuminated path looks in the B&W, giving an almost sinister feel to the image but also love the colour of the grass and the water in the other.

Yeah both look good. But, the choice is yours alone to make. The BnW is almost romantic like a 30s film still in my mind. I think the color version is more sinister to me. I think the steeple is more balanced with the foreground I the black and white shot while the color Leeds my eyes to linger on the middle of the frame longer.

Perceptive, Ian. I agree.

i prefer the color

For me, BW with enhanced white tower in fog. For my perception, the tower as focal point in this composition has many distractions like lights, walkway shade etc.

However, I appreciate the mystique soft feel.
Thanks
