TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK

So, people keep saying, "NEEDS FIXING - 1 + Star" so, I did it...tell me what you think?

The photo with the bluish fog is updated...the greyish fog is the original...which is better? My preference is the greyish fog

Too much empty sky. I would crop the sides especially the right, above the track horizon and below the red lights. Then the photo shows a track leading into a mystery/nowhere. The central rail "leads" you there but also says not to go. Keep it b&w and increase the contrast of the rails.

Thanks...that synopsis of the track leading into a mystery nowhere...I like that! I have tried to crop further towards the lights and drop the sky down to me it just didn't have the same feel. I did leave the original photo as is...because of the feel to it...kind of eerie with the tracks heading into the fog and the birds coming out of it... .

I like the lower one better. I don't have a problem with the amount of sky. A little contrast would be good. I don't care for the gray of the top pic and there's something going on data compression wise.
To be honest it's not an outstanding photo. It's good but not great. I'd give it a 2.5. But I like your subject matter. Just be careful on the tracks. And keep in mind it can be considered trespassing and get you in trouble. I speak from experience.

Noted!

For my tastes, D Man, you got it right first time, and the appeal to me is the same as to you, judging by your comments. I love the almost-not-there colour apart from the lights, and the tracks-to-nowhere. I'd rate it a 4 now, and checking your portfolio that's what I did before, and there your average is 3.5. I think it's your best image. The upper image looks as if someone is burning off and smoke has blown across the tracks thirty yards away. If it ain't broke...

Other people have commented on poor ratings in competitions, where I note this image has rated much lower recently. My guess is that people randomly view more competition images, but tend to be drawn to your portfolio through some specific link. (I visited your portfolio after seeing this image.)

IMHO not worth sweating the ratings, even in portfolios. Only worthwhile feedback generally comes from discussions in Groups, like this page we're on.

Hey Chris, Thanks for the feedback...really, what I was looking for were some thoughts from people regarding this photo (or it could have been any other photo for that matter).. I was playing around with this and did change the look of the photo, which I don't really like myself, and put it on here for people to comment...

It is funny how people look at things and have there perspective on the subject, in this case the railroad tracks...

The first time you looked at this photo, you didn't open it up all the way, but then you stated that you went back and put it into full screen, then you were able to see the birds (remember that?)...for me, that is what made my day regarding this photo...then your imagination started...

that is the type of photos that are worth a lot to for the fact there are HIDDEN THINGS THAT THE NAKED EYE DON'T SEE..

I like to take photos of driftwood, I think you may have seen the one I took (normally I don't touch them because I don't want to mess up what I am seeing)....there are figures on the wood, and with the naked eye, you don't see it....and when posting the photo, people automatically start to criticize it...and don't see what you have said in the description or title...(look at the photo and tell me what you see), I look at them sort of like a puzzle...putting the pieces together! Not only that, every time I look at this photo, I find something else I didn't see the time before. NOT ONLY THAT, others have seen things that I didn't even see...

DAMN, I'M BABBLING TOO MUCH...
