Super cool image.

Feels like the sky needs a bit of a crop to me; as is, the partially frozen lake is so over powered by the dramatic skies that its almost insignificant in the frame.

Thanks for the input. I struggled with the comp here. When I cropped it on top it lost the drama of the clouds fanning out. Although I like the lake, the sky won out. Next time I'll bring a wider lens šŸ˜…

Face that dilemma all the time!

I agree that the tress and their reflection in the partially frozen lake should be the emphasis.

Thanks for the feedback I like it better cropped. How do you like this comp?

From my point of view, it works a lot better.

Iā€™d try to include a little more sky to give that tree, camera left, a tad more breathing room and open up the scene. Really cool and dramatic shot.

This is a great shot Robert, and I think you've managed to capture something quite unique. I haven't made my mind up about the crop but I quite like the original. If you are going to crop, then I wouldn't crop as much as you have. All a matter of personal opinion of course.

Robert, great shot. Played around with the crop - here is another version: sky only. Different picture now, but also interesting

One of the things that was drummed into my consciousness early on was that if the sky's not doing something interesting, leave it out. In this case, the sky IS doing something very interesting, so I'd leave it in. That said, I'd also go to a 1:1 crop to tighten things for better effect. That said, I really like the shot. That's saying something because I'm not much of a monochrome fan.

I love it! I'm the opposite of the others. I'd actually prefer a little more at the bottom to provide a bit of a border. (I know the others will disagree with me.)
