welcome to the forum and if you want to get better just keep shooting

Between 1 and 2, I prefer 2 but I think I'd use the Rule of Thirds (centering isle on lower right intersection, which would be about a 4x3 crop). Or, with your crop, the isle would be moved about half an inch up the diagonal from top left to bottom right.

Hi Evan, welcome. Following as my opinion.

IMAGE 1: Subject is bang in centre. if this would have been a long exposure frame, it would have softened the context making it more meaningful for me.

IMAGE 2: Good composition. if you choose, next time bring it a little in both ways. I feel the space to its right and bottom is less.

IMAGE 3: wide angle shots are tricky and are good opportunity for a photographer to grow. at initial reflection, my vision is not reaching to any interesting element after wondering here and there. Many thoughts are running in mind of this or that could be done. But as said let this be opportunity for new stories to flow.

Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback! Really really good notes, on the third one I think I'll have to try and get back when there are some surfers out in the water, might add that touch of story to really round out the composition. I mostly took it because I liked how the bowing of the beach carried you through the sea stacks, but I agree it lacks that final touch to really ground the image.

Sup Evan. Main advice is returning to these spots when there is better light (morning or afternoon). Assuming you already know the technical stuff, I like the tension / symmetry in your photos assuming breaking the “rules,” is intentional.

Hi Evan and welcome! I hope you find FS as friendly and constructive as I do. You're off to a good start here!

Interesting you should post variants of the same scene in the first two images. For me, the second is much stronger because of the placement of the rock & lighthouse, which makes it look less static - odd though that might sound for a static subject. There is an energy or dynamism to the second version which makes it more appealing and interesting to me. Personally, I prefer the more restrained colours here and the hazy horizon, although many people like more saturated hues.

The third image is appealing, well composed and with a nice sense of the vastness of this landscape. The misty feel is part of its appeal, but perhaps the dark forest at left looks a little washed-out; this might be hard to address in processing without killing the overall mood, though.

Let's see more from you!

I appreciate the welcome and the feedback! On the third image, I agree the forest would benefit from a bit more green. Though tricky as that particular forest is really dark in the best of conditions let alone on a cloudy day!

I'd say you're already more than half-way! Very nice. Re: Vijay#1. I'm actually into a somewhat centering kick right now because it's been SO taboo by professionals for so long that I will do it because it makes the photo unusual. Of course, it all depends upon the subject and its surroundings. In this case I think it works very nicely in a minimalist way. I like it! Don't jettison it from your repertoire but just be aware that pros will poo-poo it.

Everything gets criticized by the pro's just before coming into vogue! Center away!

I think your images are very nice all around. Best of luck.
