Waterfall in the Desert

I finally made it out for an early season hike in the deserts of southern Idaho. For a brief period in the late winter/early spring the creek is flowing through the "Little City of Rocks" so I thought I would venture out and see what I could capture. Difficult lighting on this scene required a bit of exposure blending on top of some focus stacking to produce the final result. Still I must have miscalculated somewhere as the focus is a bit soft in places, but overall I am reasonably pleased with the result.

Nice Peter. We’re often our own toughest critics, however the best compliment I can give is that your shot makes me want to visit the area to take in its grandeur.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks so much!

The water has a pleasing composition. The shot is technically perfect! Giving me a great idea what is worth to visit when I come to the US.

I am questioning what is the matter you want to show? The waterfall or the rocks above the waterfall? Shure, both are there and make this scenery. In the shot they are somehow competing for me.

This shot is was actually simplified from my original composition. The waterfall was intended as the main focal point, but without the rocks above I felt the shot lost context - The spires above the falls give the image a sense of place, but does add an additional subject. In then end, I felt it was a stronger composition with them included.

Nice, well done

Thank you :)
