Michael, it depends on how you want to look at it.
1. I've been using my cell phone and nikon coolpix for a few years to take pictures, and then i would edit them either on my phone or in instagram.
2. Last month I got a nikon d500 with a 16-80mm lens, 60mm lens (use in these photos), and a 200-500mm lens. Now I'm learning how to use lightroom for editing (which is a world of difference from my cell phone or instagram.
So i guess to answer your question, i've been shooting for a few years, but recently upgraded to better gear, and started taking it a little more serious.
