I already posted this in the abstract/minimalist group but thought I'd post it here also. I took this handheld from the pier over the ocean with a slower shutter speed. I had to over expose it some b/c I don't have any filters that fit the lens I used but I was able to recover everything pretty well. And I find with these types of photos the exposure isn't as important. I'm a fan of these images that look more like paintings. I'm looking forward to trying out more of these types of photos in the future. Wood love to know what you think?
I did one like this from the beach, longer exposure and panned left to right; you're right, it has a paintbrush type of effect. Did you follow the crest of the wave as your shutter was open?
Hi Chris. I've done the panning left to right type shots as well. They are also fun to experiment with. For this you're exactly right. I positioned my self on the pier kind of where the waves were breaking or about to break. I'd try to pick one out and just follow it with my camera and then when it's about to break I just held down the shutter button and took several photos as the wave was crashing while following it with my camera. I don't remember my shutter speed but I was limited in how slow I could go b/c I don't have any filters that fit this lens. If I remember correctly I was somewhere around 1/25, 1/15.
Beautiful shot Kyle, love the color and the sense of movement in this one, really nice contrast as well.
Thank you!
