Clouds in the Western District

The fertile soil and weather make Victoria's Western District productive farmland.

I'm a city slicker, but enjoy relaxing in this pleasant, unspectacular land, staying in the southern Garmpians and exploring the area. It is fairly flat, and does not always suggest photographic possibilities to me. These clouds caught my eye one day as I meandered around.

The streaks below the cloud formation in the first two images are not rain, as it might seem. They are actually the effect of sun beams heading away from the viewer, appearing to converge.

Moody!

Thanks, Mark!

Lush textures. I particularly like the action in this section...

Thank, Chris. I perhaps should have thought of a vertical composition as well. The real scene was rather bland-looking compared to these renditions, so perhaps I didn't "milk" it for all it was worth as much as I often do, not being at all sure it held much promise at the time.

I really like the b/w treatment. With no color to distract the star of the show is the texture in the clouds. I particularly like the second one. Nice work

Thanks, John! Nice to hear from you. Glad you like them. I'm a bit torn between the first two (20 vs 28mm focal lengths). I love clouds, I must say.

Hi, gorgeous photos! For some reason I am attracted to the last one :)

Thanks, Marisa! Maybe it's the "big sky" look in the third that appeals to you, with the low horizon and the fanning clouds. That effect always captivates me.

love the theme! the mono brings out the play of the light with the clouds. Beautiful!
