Starry Nights and Fireflies
This past weekend I was camping with some friends along the New River near Crumpler, North Carolina. Clouds and moonlight ruined any chance of getting a decent Milky Way shot, although you can see part of it in this image. However, thousands of fireflies were dancing all night long. Every yellow dot in this image is a firefly. If you zoom in you can really see just how many there were.
This was shot over several hours through out the night. I then used several different techniques to blend multiple photos together to create the final image.
Kyle, very cool what shutter speed and how many images did you blend?
Hi Paul, thank you. For the foreground I used a shot at f/8 iso 50 and 15 second shutter speed. For the sky, the shot I used was f/2.8 iso 1600 and 30 seconds. Then I used 68 photos, at the same settings as the night shot, to add in the fireflies.
Kyle, thanks for your response, can't remember the last time I saw real fireflies. The photographer/naturalist is looking at your numbers, my brain's grinding and churn for possible improvement.
