Day to Night

Day to Night at the Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

What do you get when you shoot from about an hour before sunset until dark in the same spot without moving the camera and then meticulously blend the photos into one image? This is what you get. A carefully composited image depicting the transition from day to night.

Shout out the Stephen Wilkes for the inspiration to try this.

This was my first time trying this so any tips/constructive feedback would be appreciated.

I like the image I would've used a gradient on the left hand side to bring a bit more light to the end of the jetty. The eyes are drawn to the sun straight away but the mystery of the jetty gets taken away by the huge big white blob of light it's a difficult photo to take given the conditions as well well done.

Agree with Nev Clarke - for a stylistic image, I’d include the stars, moon, or some other element(s) camera left to complement the Title / Caption and eliminate any thought that the processing was accidental. As-is, it looks like a dark gradient mask atop a beautiful sunset shot.

I’m sorry but I don’t see how you could possibly think that. Anyone that’s seen a sky knows when the sun is still up, as in the right side, you don’t get those deeper oranges and pink clouds (left side) until it’s below the horizon and during blue hour.

Looks really nice just as it is, but maybe just little bit lighter on the left side would make the transition look even smoother :)

yeah, I probably should've used an actual night/dark frame for the far left. I'm going to play around with this and will probably add that.
