I'm looking for something a bit longer than my Canon 100-400, and my father-in-law has been translating for them from English to Spanish, so we had a long talk about the newer lenses today. Anyone have any practical experience with the Sport or Contemporary? I can't decide which to get.
Opinions welcome.
I have the Canon 100-400, and just got the Sigma 150-600 C. I am impressed with the Sigma, especially on a crop frame. Below is a test of it with a 2x attached @ 600mm (1092 equiv)
Focus pont is main stem in front.
canon 7D Sigma 150-600mm S w/Kenko 2x converter mounted on tripod IS turned off. Dist ~30'
full sun F/13, ISO 160, 1/80sec, 1092mm, -0.7 exp comp
Basic Lens corr, minimal noise, sharpening applied in LR5
...also have tried it out against r/c airplanes. The autofocus is fast and stable. I shoot handheld and the IS is as good or better than my Canon 100-400mm. This will be my wildlife/bird, and action lens on a Canon 7D I can post a couple of the r/c pics is needed.
I ended up getting the C as well, and I'm happy with the performance so far. I was using it with a 6D, and got a pair of 7D bodies (one for my son, one as a spare) for those really long shots. Gets me almost too close to deer, but will be shooting bear in Alaska next month. That should be a good test.
Thanks!
